Healthcare Reimagined at a Planetree Distinction Award Recipient

The new 668,000 square-foot, 11-story addition includes new acute care units, interventional services, emergency services and a host of clinical and building support services. Preparing for the first patient day began with Healthcare Performance Partners (HPP) facilitating a series of workshops to design the safe and efficient flow of patients, staff, information and materials. Additionally, each workflow designated Planetree elements: family inclusion, patient delighters, and scripting.
HPP worked in collaboration with Stamford’s Organizational & Clinical Effectiveness Group to prepare four volumes of training and orientation documents. These documents served to equip Stamford Hospital with highly reliable workflows as well as a training and orientation manual to guide staff preparation.

The workflows or processes are broken down into their respective steps and described in narrative and graphic forms. These documents, referred to as Compass Documents, capture the Activities (Standard Work), Connections, and Pathways for each process. The collection of Compass Documents provides a training and orientation manual for staff preparedness and the first patient day.
